Joseph Allen & Sons Large 7 Blade Bowie Sheffield, England, Circa Late 1800s
Joseph Allen & Sons Large Rare Bowie Sheffield, England Good to Excellent Condition – Circa late-1800s – (Wood Stand not Included). Offered for sale is a large antique bowie knife made by Joseph Allen & Sons of Sheffield, England. Between 1890 and early 1900s. This knife has not been cleaned or modified in any way to preserve its value. This knife has a carbon steel clip-point blade, a nickel silver hilt, full-tang construction with a full tang, and a stag/bone handle. The knife is in excellent condition overall, especially considering its age. The blade appears to be about 100% intact and shows no signs of having been re-sharpened. The blade is tang-stamped Joseph Allen & Sons Sheffield England. Blade length is 7. Overall length is 12. The handle is bone and has no cracks. Condition is NKCA Very Good to Excellent – not surprising for a knife made in the 1800s. Comes with the tasseled sheath (probably not the original). Note this knife lacks the NON-XLL Stamp suggesting it was made prior to 1883 (after 1883, the NON-XLL stamp was added to their cutlery). But the England stamp was required for export after 1891 when the 1890 U. Tariff Act was passed, requiring countries to indicate the exporting country. This would indicate the knife was made prior to 1883 but stamped “England” prior to actually being exported. No sales to minors (anyone who is under age 18). Federal, State, and local laws, regulations. Knife in photos is the exact knife you will receive.
